Mini Musing - January
foggy mornings, cassettes, and runny eggs
In the spirit of writing about “delight” for a whole year, I want to keep a record of the things that delight me. It’s a good practice; kind of like keeping a gratitude journal. Here are few things so far:
Light
Lately, it’s been uncharacteristically warm here in middle Tennessee. There’s been a lot of moisture in the air and the mornings have been quite foggy. Hillhaven overlooks this little village and as the sun rises, the mountains turn gray to pink to blue and people start to walk their dogs, start their morning commutes, and begin their day. It’s all so beautiful and I understand why birds watch us from the treetops. We are slowing finding warmer light bulbs for the house. It makes such a big difference and has convinced me that most of modern life is attacking our senses and leaving us so fatigued.
Cassettes and Vinyl
My dad gave me one of his old cassette players over Christmas and I have been having a ton of fun looking for old tapes to start a collection. I am not one of those guys who believes that tape is always superior than digital recordings; some tape doesn’t sound that great at all, but the humming of the player along with the clunky buttons is so nostalgic for me and I love it. I have also been building up my vinyl collection and have found a few Bob Dylan records in really good shape that I have been enjoying. In particular, Dylan’s Bringing It All Back Home has been on the turntable. But alas, my marriage is unequally yolked and Anna is not a Dylan fan. She claims that he is attacking her senses.
Fried Eggs
Speaking of yolks, I find so much delight in an egg with a deep yellow yolk. They taste so much better and it just reminds me of home. Add some salt, pepper, a side of sourdough toast, Kerrygold butter, a cup of coffee, and crank Bob Dylan and it’s going to be a good day.
What is bringing you delight? Is it a smell? A song? Let me know in the comments or respond to this message. I’d love to hear from you. Talk soon. xoxo

Delight today? Listening and learning to play the song 'Does it sound familiar' by Andy Gullahorn. It's about the final discovery of a long overlooked, unappreciated masterpiece. We are probably surrounded by lots of them!
Oh also, I’m reading LOTR for the first time and it’s bringing me great delight. Currently on The Two Towers.
