May - Benediction
A lonely man's waltz
If you read my piece, Delight in the Hollers, you will remember that loneliness has been on my mind this month. So much so that I decided to write a song about it. It’s short and sweet; a lot like conversations between men usually go.
I hope you enjoy it.
A Lonely Man’s Waltz
I’ve been walking for miles
In a search for a smile
And I pray to my God everyday
For the quiet to end
Or some time I can spend
Making memories that won’t pass away
I’ve been searching for years
With dried up old tears
For a man to call brother or friend or buddy will do
I’ve been searching for someone like you
I’ve been looking around
All over this town
For a shoulder to cry on or punch
We could grab a cold beer
Once a week or once a year
But I’d settle for grabbing some lunch
I’ve been walking for miles
With a fake toothy smile
And I’m filling up all of my days
With the fear that I’m through.
I’ve been searching for someone like you
